Editorial direction

1. Institutional Commitment

The editorial policy of the University of Colima is grounded in its institutional mission to generate, preserve, and disseminate knowledge, art, and culture. Through its publications, the University promotes scientific communication, literary and artistic creation, and the dissemination of knowledge with social responsibility, academic relevance, and editorial quality.

2. Nature and Functions

Founded in 1940, the University of Colima is a decentralized public institution of the State of Colima, dedicated to higher education, research, and cultural outreach. Its publishing program is coordinated by the General Directorate of Publications (DGP), which is responsible for planning, evaluating, supervising, and promoting institutional editorial production in collaboration with academic units, research centers, and administrative departments.

The DGP manages and coordinates the publication of:

  • Academic, scientific, creative, and outreach books
  • Scientific and cultural journals, in both print and digital formats
  • Institutional publications derived from core university activities

3. Publishing Imprint

All works approved for publication bear the University’s institutional imprint, which guarantees the academic, editorial, and technical quality of the content. This imprint is applied to books and journals in both print and electronic formats.

4. Diversity of Formats, Licenses, and Languages

The University publishes under various intellectual property frameworks:

  • Traditional copyright
  • Copyleft and open licenses (such as Creative Commons)
  • Open access, in line with institutional and national open science policies

5. Production and Reach

The General Directorate of Publications publishes an average of 30 book titles per year and oversees the editorial operation of nine academic journals, in collaboration with academic bodies, publishing networks, and national and international authors.

6. Authorship and Collaboration

The University of Colima publishes works by:

  • Researchers from within the institution.
  • Authors from other universities, research centers, public institutions, and civil society organizations.
  • Creators, communicators, and experts in various fields of knowledge, art, and culture.

Co-publications with other institutions are welcome, under agreements or contracts that ensure shared editorial standards and transparent collaboration processes.
